Patrick Audley
Chief Technology Officer

Credentials?

  • I have a very extensive background in the areas of Internet security, privacy technologies, and high performance computing – as well as a very unique and broad business background which lets me tie these things into the world of commerce and finance.
  • I have over a decade’s worth of solid, full life-cycle software development and management experience.
  • I designed and built a large-scale super computing facility in the UK for research, and assisted biologists in augmenting wet lab work with massively parallel computing.
  • I was a founder of Group Telecom’s PKI group where I touched almost all aspects of the business from prototyping to managing development and growing the sales side through business development. I designed and oversaw the construction of a high security, military grade PKI data vault.  At GT, I also coordinated and assisted with a national security audit  – a responsibility that encompassed over 2,000 systems, 1,000 networks and three autonomous routing domains across sixteen cities.

Career highlight?

Building a world-class super computing facility then abusing it ruthlessly to do computational biology.

NICKNAME?

None that I’ll admit to.

FONDEST MEMORY?

Being in love and having dinner at The Ritz in Paris.

CRAZIEST MEMORY?

So many choices… Skydiving? Deep-sea wreck diving? A year spent flying across the Ocean every few weeks to visit a woman I was dating?

CHILDHOOD AMBITION?

To rule the world. (No, really…)

WILDEST DREAM?

(See childhood ambition.)

WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A MOVIE BASED ON YOUR LIFE?

Robin Williams.

IF YOUR LIFE HAD A SOUNDTRACK WHAT WOULD IT BE?

BT’s Ima for the opening scenes, perhaps something dark and ambient for general background, NIN for the occasional action scenes, and a nice classical score for the romance bits.

TECHNOLOGY YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

The internet. I vaguely remember life without it and shiver.

HISTORY’S GREATEST TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION?

The Code of Hammurabi – it formed the foundation for modern law and introduced the concept of universal equalitarianism (even the King was not immune under the Law).

WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT: PIRATES OR NINJAS?

Pirates, because they fight dirty and have guns – never bring nunchuks to a gun fight.
