Glossary

A
Accessibility
Providing features that allow all users, including those with mental and/or physical challenges, to use technology with ease.
B
Behavioral Biometrics
A class of biometric technology that uses behavioral characteristics, such as keystroke dynamics, to identify users.
Biometrics
Technologies that examine an individual’s physical and/or behavioral traits for identification purposes.
C
Cognitive Biometric
A class of biometric technology that employs human behavioral models based on principles of cognitive psychology to authenticate legitimate users.
Cognometric Engine
The computational layer of Cogneto’s technology that analyses a user’s Passthought™, compares it to a predictive model, then combines these findings with those supplied by the Universal Risk Mitigation layer to generate a confidence rating for the user.
Consensus Decision-Making
A process that not only seeks the agreement of most participants, but also the resolution or mitigation of the minority’s objections to achieve the most agreeable decision. UNOMI™ uses consensus decision-making to decide among multiple cognitive biometric and risk mitigation factors whether a user is legitimate.
C-Rating (Confidence Rating)
An individual confidence score made available to the user that indicates how their level of security is changing over time.
D
Dynamic Biometrics
Biometric technologies that measure constantly changing traits, such as the way people sign their signatures.
E
Events
The memorable components that comprise a user’s Passthought™.
F
False Acceptance Rate (FAR)
The percentage of invalid users who are incorrectly accepted as genuine users.
False Rejection Rate (FRR)
The percentage of valid users who are incorrectly rejected as impostors.
Fraud Correlation
A form of risk management that seeks to reduce fraud by identifying behavioral and physical patterns indicative of fraudulent activity.
I
Input Devices
The computer peripherals that users employ to interact with computers and their applications. The most common examples are the mouse and keyboard.
Introduction
Cogneto’s unique application of standard enrollment where users introduce themselves to and become acquainted with the system.
K
Keystroke Dynamics
A behavioral biometric that authenticates users by measuring they way in which they type.
Kinematics
The study of motion. UNOMI™ uses kinematic models of gestural behavior to verify identity.
M
Mousemetrics
A behavioral biometric that measures the way in which users interact with their pointing device, such as a mouse.
P
Passthought™
A unique and vivid life event that forms the basis of a Cogneto user’s cognometric login.
Person Presence
The guarantee of a user’s physical presence rather than the presence of a specific piece of hardware or shared secret. Person presence implies a high level of identity assurance.
Predictive Model
A model used to predict future behavior based on complex sets of past behaviors.
R
Recognition
The two-way authentication process whereby the system verifies the user and the user verifies the system. Each successful recognition progressively strengthens the user’s Passthought™ diary and overall level of security.
Risk Management
The process of measuring, or assessing risk and developing strategies to manage it.
S
Security Index
The score that is generated from the UNOMI™ consensus function indicating its level of confidence in a user’s identity claim.
U
Universal Risk Mitigation
The foundational layer of Cogneto’s technology that assesses local factors pertaining to the user’s login history (such as location, time of day, device ID, etc.) as well as global factors (such as recent intrusion attempts, frequency of phishing attacks, overall Internet threat levels, etc.) to generate a risk level which is then passed on to the Cognometric Engine to help determine the user’s C-Rating and security index.
Universal Usability
Designing technology for all users including those with mental and/or physical challenges.
Usability
The degree to which a technology can be used appropriately and effectively by its users.
User Experience
The fun and easy-to-use human interface layer where Cogneto users input their Passthoughts™.
